As recognition to its business ethos, the Indian Chemicals Manufacturers Association (ICMA) has awarded Kanoria Chemicals & Industries Limited (KCI) the prestigious ICMA Award for Water Resource Management in Chemical Industry for the year 2003-04. In addition, KCI has also been awarded the ICMA D.M. Trivedi Award for Introducing Advancement in Technology having a Widespread Impact on Chemical Industry for the year 2003-04, through a certificate of merit. Both the awards pertain to the pioneering use of Reverse Osmosis technology for treatment of distillery effluent and recycling water in India and the recipient was the company's integrated Alco-chemical manufacturing facility in Ankleshwar, Gujarat.
KCI was presented these Awards in a special function organized by the Indian Chemical Manufacturers Association in Mumbai on November 8th, where Mr. K.V. Kamath, CEO, ICICI Bank Limited was the Chief Guest and Mrs. Rajashree Birla, Aditya Birla Group was the Guest of Honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. O.P. Patodia, Wholetime Director, KCI, said, "We are very pleased with the recognition of the efforts that we have undertaken to preserve water and utilise our resources in a sustainable way. We dedicate these Awards to the tireless work being undertaken with regard to conservation, environment management and sustainable development by the management team and staff of the Ankleshwar division. We hope to better our performance in the coming years."

Sustainability: A core ethos of KCI

Sustainable development at KCI encompasses several aspects rather than being only restricted to environment protection or growth in the company's profitability. Not only does it lay a strong emphasis on environment sustainability, but gives due importance to the community and society. The company is particularly focused on water resource management. It believes that this depleting natural resource needs wide attention of people to sensitise them towards water conservation measures.
At the company's Ankleshwar plant, these measures have become a showcase of pioneering technologies in wastewater and effluent treatment. While several sets of measures have been implemented in an integrated manner, distillery effluent treatment through Reverse Osmosis technology is worth special mention.
